Leadership Resources for Students

The James W. Burns Leadership Institute: provides opportunities for University of Manitoba undergraduate and graduate students to develop leadership knowledge relevant to any field. Workshops and lectures are offered on leadership topics throughout the year.

The Canadian Federation of Medical Students offers leadership awards to recognize Canadian medical students who have made innovative contributions to their schools. In recognition of their achievements, one student from each of the 14 member schools of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) will receive a Medical Student Leadership Award. The Canadian Medical Association offers leadership awards to students, residents and early carerr physicans who have demonstrated exemplary dedication, commitment and leadership in one of the following areas: political, clinical, educational, or research and community service. The Canadian Society of Physician Leaders is a resource and networking site for physician leaders. They also have a podcast series that features physician leaders across Canada. https://physicianleaders.ca/podcasts.html.

The Canadian College of Health Leadership provides ongoing training for those interested in health care leadership roles and offers a certification program for health care leaders.

The Office of Interprofessional Collaboration (OIPC) Communities and Collaboration Symposium provides an opportunity for students, community organizations, or a collaboration of students/community organizations to present a pitch for consideration for an award. These awards include the Alan Klass Collaboration and Communities Health Equity Award and the Community Impact Award. For more information, contact the OIPC at opic@umanitoba.ca.
